Early 19th Century Chinese Export Lacquer Tea Caddy with Original Lead Liners
An octagonal Chinese export tea caddy in black lacquer with gilt decoration, raised on four carved gilt paw feet. The lid carries a central figural scene with seated figures among trees and cloud scrolls, with gilt foliate sprays decorating the canted corners of the body. The front panel has a shaped cartouche with figures flanked by wheat sheaf motifs. The interior retains both original engraved lead canisters with ivory knob finials. Circa 1800-1840.
