Early 19th Century Chinese Export Lacquer Tea Caddy in Cylindrical Form
A Chinese export tea caddy dating from the first half of the 19th century of cylindrical octagonal form in black lacquer with gilt decoration throughout. The body is decorated with figures among palms and flowering branches, with suspended lantern motifs at the corners. The domed lid carries figures in a landscape with foliate sprays, topped by a turned wood knob. The interior retains its original lead liner with an engraved octagonal lid and bone ball finial. Circa 1800-1840.
