18th Century Italian Baroque Giltwood Prickets
A pair of Italian carved giltwood altar prickets, each with five iron spikes rising from carved bobèches arranged among scrolling acanthus and foliate branches. The stems rise from a turned urn-form base with scrolled handles, set on a square ebonized plinth. The red bole showing through the worn gilt gives them a wonderfully rich, aged surface. Circa 1790.
